Chemistry Lab - Pakuranga College

Thirty excited scientists set off down the hill to visit Pakuranga College's chemistry lab. Having gone through the process beforehand, most of us thought we knew what to expect, but the reality was way cooler!

Our aim was to carry out a fair test investigation to see whether Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) or Sodium Carbonate (NaCO3) would react fastest in a mild acid solution. Both experiments produced CO2 however, 26 of us predicted correctly that NaCO3 would take the least time.

We learned so much from using the laboratory equipment at Pakuranga College and observing the changes in the chemicals in the experiment, that we came back feeling highly motivated to investigate further in science.

Thank you to the parents who accompanied us and Mrs Zoreen Mohammed from Pakuranga College who hosted us for the session. What a great outing we had!
