We recognise many of the hallmarks of successful people can be embodied in six virtues which we seek to instill into all our students:

50th Jubilee

50th Jubilee Celebrations

Our school has been in the heart of the Howick community since 1965 and was officially opened as an intermediate in 1966. Prior to this it was Howick District High School (1937 - 1964), which occupied the same site. We celebrated our inaugural Howick Heritage Day on Thursday 15th September 2016.

We had a wonderful response from our parents, grandparents, previous staff, alumni and friends who joined in our Jubilee celebrations. Our students excelled in their performances for the Howick Heritage Day programme coordinated by a number of staff members.

The day provided an opportunity for past students, staff, BoT and PTA members to re-connect. We had people attend from all over the country as well as from Australia.

The programme started with a welcome assembly and student performances. This was followed by time in the classrooms and a high tea for guests. Guests were welcomed onto the school with a Powhiri lead my members of the local Marae and our Kapa Haka group gave an energetic performance. We were also entertained by our dance students who gave both individual and group performances.

Throughout the assembly, the history of the school was portrayed and students also presented original items including an ANZAC poem and the original school song. Guests were invited to stay for light refreshments and visit classrooms for an interactive experience with students. How special to have up to three generations represented.

High Tea

Guests for the High Tea gathered in the staffroom with some of the staff. A number of ex-staff, students and grandparents attended. It was fascinating hearing about school life from the Howick District High School day and the early years of Howick Intermediate. It was a special time getting to know some of the history of the school from guests.

Howick Mix'n'Mingle

Our Mix 'n' Mingle evening also provided a wonderful opportunity to re-connect with alumni, staff, BoT and PTA members, local educational and community leaders. The room was filled with laughter as people recounted stories and enjoyed a montage of school photos from 1937 to the current day. There was also a digital display of student work about our school history and the history of Howick. This history is now also displayed on a mural in the hall foyer and provides a wonderful overview of the rich and varied history of a school which has served the Howick Community on our site for 79 years.

Thank you to all those who attended and were involved in making our 50th Jubilee such a wonderful celebration.
